For the ladies
Having a love for makeup doesn’t mean you have to be a vapid clown. Cosmetics companies employ a great deal of chemists for all sorts of purposes (quality control, cosmetic formulators, synthetic engineering, etc). Without chemistry, we would’t have the modern makeup products we have today, such as…
1. Crackle Nailpolish
I recently purchased my first bottle of crackle nail polish, only a couple years after they stopped being fashionable. Nail polish junkies know that one the most important characteristics of the product is a smooth, even finish. This usually requires a lengthy drying time (unless you’re clumsy like me and require the fast drying stuff). In order to create the crackle effect, ethanol is added to the bottle. This causes the polish to dry quickly and unevenly.
2. Long Lasting Lipstick
I did undergrad work on these wonderful things!
